Shaping the future: A natural relationship

Writing down your own thoughts in a notebook is more than a ritual. It creates structure, helps us remember and turns ideas into something lasting. It is a choice against the fleeting – in favour of something that remains. That choice comes with responsibility. We firmly believe that the way we produce is a statement of our principles – and that, when consistently put into practice, those principles not only result in better products, but also offer better answers to the questions of our time.

Our paper: responsibly sourced

People use our notebooks, sketchbooks and planners with fountain pens, ballpoint pens, crayons and pencils of all kinds, in different grades and from a wide range of sources. For every application, we strive to find the perfect paper, with the right quality, smoothness and weight.

Depending on the product and its requirements, we use different paper qualities, which may contain varying proportions of fibre. This means that we also use paper containing long fibres from virgin pulp, which are needed to achieve particular writing characteristics.

Our papers are FSC-certified (FSC Mix Paper, licence code FSC® C133314). We mark our products with this claim to indicate that the materials used may come from responsibly managed forests, recycled materials and/or other controlled sources.

Our production: careful and responsible

In processing our products, we work with partners and suppliers, actively supporting them in material selection and process requirements. We continuously improve the environmental and health aspects of the materials used – including inks and varnishes – and consistently use mineral-oil-free, water-based systems wherever they meet our products’ quality requirements. Our products comply with the requirements of the EU Chemicals Regulation REACH. As we sell worldwide, we also take market-specific requirements and labelling obligations into account – and do not wait for legislation to set minimum requirements; we act with foresight.

As a family business, we think long term.

We have been producing fine stationery for more than 100 years. As a northern German family business, we approach our work with Hanseatic calm, determination and foresight, continually improving the quality of our products and the way we work.

We take responsibility for our employees, the wider society in which we operate and, increasingly, our partners, whom we actively support in implementing relevant international requirements and standards.

Notebooks, planners and sketchbooks create added value

Writing down thoughts and ideas with pen and paper preserves them and consciously creates an archive in the making. Our books are not consumer goods; they are made to be used and, through use, become objects of value. They are faithful companions for months and, once every page has been filled, are rarely discarded. Many of our customers keep their notebooks, calendars and sketchbooks because they hold their memories, ideas and personal stories.
